Really need to have custom fields for listings, with the ability to be filtered.. This way you could have things like price options (free, paid, etc), or whatever you want. Different from sub categories, it gives you the ability to show more info on a listing page, aswell as being able to filter for larger directories

Custom fields per category would be very useful. You can often need different fields based on the type of category

Multiple filters selection (multiple categories), and also order by (A-Z up and down, date submission older recent, price range.. something similar to spread simple. It woudl help so much the search.
